A Lost Love.

He never wanted to remember his past. All he wanted now is to be a mindless soul- to escape from those feelings that haunt him day and night.

Love is a painful feeling, for him to accept.

If it's the past that prevents him to move on, he'd rather they remain in the dark and forgotten.

But, reflections don't lie. What stands in front of him, is what he is today. He could no longer see the boy that had always beamed with confidence.

Instead, a teenager with a pair of grey hollow eyes that transcends into his hidden sadness for years, portrayed in the reflection.

Disappointment.

He never wanted to be this way. Never.
Suddenly, all those memories came flashing in his mind. Reminiscence. 2 years had passed - but those memories were still fresh in his mind.

Melanie was his buddy and the one that he loved. He could never forget all the times that they both had before. Of how happy he was. Of how her sweet smile never failed to brighten up even his darkest days.

Until the day...

Both of them sat on the water breakers - their favourite spot.
"Hey, i've got something to tell you." she muttered nervously.
"yeah? what's wrong?" he asked.

All the while, he noticed that her eyes changed. It was no longer beaming with joy. For once, he was afraid of what she's going to say.
"Err, never mind. It's nothing."
"You sure?"
"Yeah, it's nothing." she answered, with a smile. A deceiving one.
"Tomorrow...let's meet here again." she continued.

He nodded.
But he knows. Both of them had an affection for each other but they never mentioned anything about love.

She moved closer, and willingly laid her head on his shoulder. It felt awkward at first but he never tried to recoil. He took her hand and held it in his. They remained in silence, enjoying each other's warmth and comforting presence.

Soon, they went back home. He walked her back to her apartment.

"Hey, thanks for today," She grinned.
"I'll see you tomorrow then," He said.
"Err okay..." her face changed.
"Hey, is anything the matter?" He asked. He could sense it in her.
"I..."
"It's okay. Just...take care" he interrupted.
She hugged him.
"I...love...you...," she whispered softly.
"Hey...I love you too, Mel."

But, he knew. Something was wrong.

The following day, somehow, he expected that she'd never turned up. He called her mum secretly to find out what was wrong. He rushed to the airport quickly. Mel's family was migrating to Australia.

Why.

Upon reaching the airport, he quickly scanned the crowd and desperately tried to make his way in.
Melanie, where are you.
Soon, he found her. She was sitting down with her mum. Her face was pale and blank. Her mum called up to her and pointed towards his direction.

Tears broke out as she ran towards him. They embraced each other tightly.
"I'm sorry" she cried.
"Hey, I'm here. But...why." He whispered.
"I’m sorry..."
His fingers touched her lips
"It's okay..."
Deep inside, he knew it’s not okay. He trusted her. He was disappointed but sad.
Within a few more minutes, he would lose her. Forever. All he wanted now is to spend happy times with her alone. Just the two of them, until her departure.

I’m sorry. Goodbye.

Two painful years, and yet he still couldn’t forget the past. He couldn’t let go. He was unprepared at that time. Every night, he wish to revert time. Indeed, it hurts to be so close and to watch your loved ones walk away just like that.

Will I ever be able to see her sweet smile again?
Will I ever be able to feel her warmth presence again?
Will I ever be able to say “I love you” to you again?

Melanie, can you hear me?
I miss you.
